FMS Challenge: Stenciled Background

It's been a while since I played in a challenge that I was not part of, and since I LOVE challenges so much I have decided to play in one and of course share it with you. One of my favorite types of challenges is sketch challenges and today I decided to play along with the Freshly Made Sketch challenge which looks like this:

This is a very fun and somewhat easy challenge and the best part is that you can create with so many different outcomes. Their design team did a wonderful job putting together some examples so make sure to head on over there and check them out. Now onto my project.

Since it's Monday, I decided to grab my Just For Fun Rubber stamps along with a stencil and get to work. I have been playing around with a lot of different techniques lately and this one is no exception.

For this card I decided to stamp the background using the Cone Daisy stamp from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps. This stamp was then colored in using my Touch Twin alcohol markers, in a couple of shades of yellow and a couple of shades of cool grey.

Once I had the background image the way I wanted it I lined up the top piece of paper and cut out a circle using my Friskars circle cutter. This circle cutter is excellent because you can adjust the size of the circle you would like, anywhere from 0-6"+ making it an all in one tool. Once the top circle was cut out I took a stencil and sponged some Topiary and Honey ink onto the cardstock. I then decided to give the card a little depth and layered the top piece onto the bottom using 3-D foam tape.

To finish off this card, and provide the other "circle" in the sketch I decided to fussy cut out the Whimsical Profile Butterfly stamp, also from Just For Fun. This stamp was also colored in using alcohol markers. I wanted to provide a little more color so I decided to pair the green and yellow with some orange and blue. Then to tie in the orange I layered the entire card onto a piece of orange paper, making three layers in total. Also, before putting on the butterfly I decided to wrap some brown ribbon around the card front, this helped break up some of the design.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed my creation and make sure to check out the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.
