Sunny Day Challenge: Happy Hippo Birthday

Yay! I now love Sundays, well at least every other Sunday, because that means that there is a brand new photo challenge up and running over at Sunny Day Crafting. If you have not checked out this new challenge blog then head on over there and get crafting!! Janis, the owner of this blog, set you up with not only a photo which you can gain inspiration from but she also supplies you with some key words to help get you started.

This week we are focusing on the photo below and boy did the design team come up with some great projects. Make sure to head on over there and get some inspiration and check out how many different ways you can interpret this challenge.. honestly there is no wrong way to do this.

My project focused on that yummy ice cream cone! Here take a look.

The images I used came from the Birthday Bash Cricut Cartridge, which happens to be a really fun cartridge to play with. And of course I decorated the inside of the card.

This card happens to be very very girly, which being the mom of two boys, I am not used to...but I do love all that glitter and all that pink.

Thanks for stopping by today. Remember you have two weeks to head over to Sunny Day and join along with this anything goes challenge.

Layout Remake: 12x12 to 8.5x11

I apologize in advance for a quick post today. We have some family coming into town for the weekend and D-man is off from school today. Apparently it's ok to have snow days when it's 90 degree outside?!! Hmm.. well anyway... Today's post is a scrapbook page which I ended up remaking in order to get it to fit into Moose Man's 8.5x11 book. Originally I had both boys sharing a book, but then I figured it would be way more fun for me to work on two scrapbooks..plus they really did each need their own book.

Ok so first things, first. Here is the original, which I like, but I didn't love.

And even though this is a really bad photo of my layout the second one came out much nicer.

Here are some close ups of the embellishments and journal card. The card came from the CTMH Georgie PML kit, which I am completely in love with!

My Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star corner cluster :)

Some things to keep in mind for my future scrapbooking pleasure is that when switching from a 12x12 to a 8.5x11 the page is much smaller and doesn't take that much to fill up. This was my first time messing around with a smaller album and I love it!! Also corner clusters is a cool phrase and they are also a cool way to embellish!

Ok, that is all for now. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Digital Delights Card!

Hello! I hope you are having a fabulous digital Thursday!! Today I have an awesome pre-colored image for you, but first, I am going to kick things off by telling you all about Creative Knockouts brand new challenge! This week we are sponsoring an Anything Goes Challenge with a fabulous $5.00 prize offered from Digital Delights. There are some awesome projects this week so make sure to head on over to Creative Knockouts and play along.

For my card I decided to get out my "Chilled Cucumber Soup" papers from none other than Jillibean Soup. I loved the floral pattern and I am not normally big on such a repeated pattern, but for this image it kind of worked out perfect.

The image is called Mother's Day Daisy and is from our CK sponsor this week Digital Delights. I have partnered the image with textile and sequins from CTMH. Here is a closer view of the front.

Make sure that you come on over to Creative Knockouts this week and play along. Digital Delights is a great store and they have a ton of great images.

Some More Happy Mail!

If any of you have been following me at all lately you know that I am a little obsessed about making Happy Mail! I made this quick mini pocket letter here and then I made another mailer using different sizes of PL cards here

Well today's card is, of course, another piece of Happy Mail. This one was made for a friend of mine who happened to help me out this month by placing an online order through my Close to My Heart Party. I love how these cute little goodies bags are an awesome way of saying "thanks for being awesome!!" Here take a peak at what I came up with for this one.

This was the cover. I did very little decorating because the PL card I used was very fun and vibrant already. These cards are from the We R Memory Keepers "Inked Rose" set which features a variety of 4x4" and 2x2" cards, i.e. perfect for this little flip book!

I had some extra alphabet stickers from a previous swap and I decided to make good use of them and to label all of the goodies that I added to the inside. You can also see that I took a journal card and I wrote a note right on it, then used that same card for my back flap.

See, this is the back of that note card! I simply love how this all came together! These are so much fun to make and receive and you can have your very own Happy Mail folder from me. If your interested  in receiving one of these bad boys choked full of goodies, simply place an online order from my CTMH Party found here. Happy Shopping!

Just Bee-Cause

Good Morning! I hope everyone had an amazing and warm weekend! We were extremely busy running around and spending some much needed time with family. Today I have a card, which is actually a set of 3 that I am making for a Navy and Yellow card swap.

The paper I used is from the Echo Park "Fine and Dandy" set and I set out to cut enough to make 8 OSW cards and then I got bored about halfway through and decided to save the pieces. I always find it easier to put all my card pieces into envelopes when I am batch cooking. This ensures that I can make my own cards really easy..on the fly.. you know if I ever get in a rut or anything in the future.

The colors yellow and blue remind me so much of a nautical theme so I thought this bee (and the "Just bee-cause" sentiment covered up on the bottom) would be a good change up of the typical blue and yellow cards. Plus how could I resist pairing those papers together. This is such an adorable paper pack.

Make sure to sign up to follow my posts by email so you can make sure to check out the other 2 cards in this set later on when I post them! Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you back here tomorrow for a non-card project then again on Thursday for my digi project!

Happy Tuesday!

Nautical Independence Day + Snail Mail

Today I have a couple of projects for you along with a Fusion Challenge that I submitted my card to. Yes I said card, but I do remember that today is Wed. and because of that I also have a non-card related project. I know that your day would not be the same if I threw you off the norm so early, so no worries I have you covered. :)

This card was inspired by the Fusion card challenge that ends today. I tried to use both the sketch and the image provided because I am so in love with the colors and the nautical theme! Here is the inside and the outside of the card.

I used the Simple Stories "Sea to Shining Sea" accessories kit to decorate both the inside and the outside of the card. I also used some lovely paper that I have been hoarding in my stash for years.

And as promised, my regular Wed. non-card related project for this week happens to be a mini pocket letter! I am so in love with these things and love sending and receiving happy mail. This particular project was made for a "Red, White, and Blue" themed swap.

I am still new to making these, this is only my second one. With this one I decided to decorate the front a little bit more. When I make these I tend to focus more on the goodies that are going in them when I should focus more on both....presentation, presentation, presentation! But just look at those wonderful goodies...yes I did hand-make those little flags.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you were inspired to head out and create something beautiful! Make sure to come back here tomorrow for a Digital Thursday!

Vellum Thank You Card

Today I am sharing a wonderful card with a very pretty technique that is so easy to accomplish with just a little bit of patience and some basic tools.

This card uses a basic white cardstock base which I took through my cuttlebug embossing machine. I like the way that it came out and embossing on a clean and simple white card always gives the card a little extra pizzazz. I then bean making those beautiful flowers which are stamped using the Wavy Blossoms Stamp set from CTMH. I stamped these in white memento ink and then I put a white embossing powder over them and heat set them. I then waited for the ink to dry (like 30 minutes just to be safe) and then I cam back through with my alcohol markers and colored the backs of the flowers.

There you have it a nice and simple technique for you to head out and try on this beautiful Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you back here tomorrow.

Barn Yard Invites & Tags

Today over at Sunny Day Crafting we are challenging all followers to create something wonderful out of a fun country themed photo. Here check it out.

There are so many different ways to go with this one. You have the white fence, the flag, the outdoors, perhaps a Memorial Day card or invite??! The possibilities are virtually endless!

For my project I decided to create a fun birthday invitation along with a gift/thank you tag.

Here is the backside, or front depending on your preferred method, of the tag. There's a cute little farm animal drawn out and placed on the bottom of this "torn" tag.

I was initially looking for a barn that had great big doors on the front so that I could add the information about the party in that area.  But, I didn't find a design I liked and so I created one on my own. I ultimately decided to have the whole barn flip open, you can see this below.

I used the Cricut cartridge "Yee-Haw" for the barn cutouts and "Country Life" for the "Farm Fresh" tag sentiment. The "Country Life" cartridge is really cute and has a number of fun country sentiments.

The paper is from my stash and is some super old "natural barn" type colors. Think reds, yellows, white, ect.. Then the inside has a spot for all of your information! Yee-Haw!!

So our link parties at Sunny Day Crafting run for two weeks which is plenty of time to create something wonderful based off from either our photo or perhaps even our keywords. Come on over and join in on the fun!

Amazing! ScrapMuch?! Sketch Challenge

Happy Friday, which is my favorite day in blog land because I like to focus on my passion, which is scrapbooking! Typically on Friday's I bring you a challenge related to scrapbooking in some way. Now there's pocket scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking, new scrapbooking, or perhaps even just an old time traditional scrapbooker, like myself. What ever type of scrapbooker you are, on Fridays, I am sure to bring you something that will inspire you in some way.. or at least I hope :)

Today's layout was inspired by the ScrapMuch?! sketch challenge that just started up today. I love most of, ok all, of Laura's sketches and how her style forces me just a little outside of my comfort zone...every time! If you have not played along with us over there then come on over..this is the week!

Honestly though, this week, I am not sure if the photo or the layout inspires me more.
Here take a look.

This photo was taken at our Easter Egg hunt...yes I am typically a month of so behind on my layouts :)
I love all of the expression that I was able to catch in this photo. This is a picture of the D-man and he is deep in thought...probably scheming up ways to get us all to head out and eat some ice cream after the egg hunt - at least if I know my "way too smart five year old" then this is exactly what he's thinking.

Here is a close up of the entire layout. I am also so totally in love with this paper, which happens to be nothing fancy but fits all of the accessories and that photo so well.

I love how the sketch forces us to use only one photograph. I quickly realized that I LOVE photos and I am generally very photo heavy in my layouts...well not today!

Here's a peak at the sketch that inspired this layout. Remember you always have all month to play along with this sketch, or any of the other sketches, over at ScrapMuch?!

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to comment below and I will swing by your blog to see what you have been up to! Happy Weekend!

You Take the Cake!

I have been sending and receiving a lot of happy mail lately and it's so much fun! I think of this as a chance to recycle and reuse some of those products that may be a little hidden in the back of the pile and switch them out for some new products...plus who doesn't love getting happy mail (just the thought of it makes me smile!)

Well I am babbling on about Happy Mail because the card I made for today was inspired by a digital piece I received in my Happy Mail envelope from my good friend Janis over at Pause, Dream, Enjoy! She makes such lovely cards so make sure to head on over there.

Isn't this guy the best! Janis also sent along the cupcake and the sentiment, so all I really had to do was fun super cute paper and piece it all together using her sketch!

Yep, that's right today's card was inspired by a sketch challenge blog that Janis runs, I promise I didn't do that on purpose, called Paper Play Sketches. This is a really fun bi-weekly sketch site that when paired with The Paper Players color combination challenge gives you a really fun card!

So I hope you enjoyed my project for today! I also hope you were inspired to head on over to one of those challenge sites and play along with us.

Cricut Make It Now: Flower Bouquet

So now, after that crazy busy and crazy early May/Mother's Day weekend I can finally show you this spectacular Lilly Bouquet I made for my very own Mother. I mentioned last week that I was very busy with projects galore and now I can show them all to you and I know you have been waiting a very long time, trust me I have too, and this is the perfect Wednesday to kick things off!

As I mentioned this was a project which I found in the Make it Now section on the Cricut Design Space website. This is a wonderful spot to look for inspiration and even for easy to follow projects, like the ones I am showing you today.

So, after my hot glue gun got fired up these beautiful flowers were coming to life. The directions called for the new Ombre paper that I believe Anna Griffin has out now, but of course I heard ombre and immediately reached for my sponges and ink! I think they came out lovely but using a beautiful specialty paper would have been really nice too :)

I tried to put a glitter "stem" center in the middle of the flower and then realized that I should have used double sided glitter paper (if they even make it!). Oh well though because when you see the glitter shine through it's quite lovely!

Then of course I topped it off with a nice glass vase and some thick ribbon. Oh, and don't forget the card, also from Make it Now!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and had a beautiful Mother's Day!

Happy Mail using PL cards!

I LOVE getting "Happy Mail" from other crafters, or anyone really. Because let's be honest here any mail that is not junk mail, or even worse bills, is enough to make me overly joyed!! I also enjoy sending out Happy Mail and consider this to be a great time to cycle through some of those old embellishments, cards, papers, and what not and pass them along to someone else who may get some use out of them. Really the only downfall to this system is that I send so much Happy Mail that I get bored making the same things and sending out the same monotonous things to people. So in step some new ideas, like the pocket letter swap from a couple of weeks ago. Today's post is very similar to that except that it requires a lot less work :) Just the way I like it.

So I got this idea from a YouTube video and it uses 4 large PL cards (which we all tend to have plenty of these on hand.) You line them all up choosing your outside ones (front and back) and then choosing two for your inside pockets.

The pockets can be cut in any shape. I happened to follow suit with the video and added a little slant about halfway through. I then used some washi tape wrapped all the way around all four cards in order to secure and create a "folder" of sorts. This is what the front and the back look like when it's laid flat on the table.

I used the Lucky Charm PL set by Becky Higgins. I love these cards and they worked out really nicely because they are so beautiful that I did not have to decorate a whole lot.

I then decided to fill the pockets with a little note on one side and of course some of the embellishments from the same kit on the other.

And there you have it a super simple and fun way to send out some Happy Mail! Thanks for stopping by today and make sure to come back tomorrow for a brand new Creative Knockouts Challenge!
