Edgy Metalic Skylark

Happy Friday! I have a quick card for you today. This card gave me a lot of trouble, which always seems to be the case when I try to follow sketches. I wanted to find a use for those beautiful embellishments (from CTMH) but they are a little out of my average comfort zone so I decided to make them a metallic focal point. Looking back reversing the cream and the green would have made them stand out a little bit more but I fixed and re-did this card over a dozens times and I was finally happy with the outcome so I decided not to mess with it anymore.  I hope I am not the only one who has days/projects that you just want to throw out the window.

Again overall I am happy with this card. I feel as though the metallic match the stamped imager of "you and me" at the bottom. I also love the skylark paper background that makes the base of the card. If you are interested in any materials that I used making this card they can all be found in my Close to My Heart shop.

Enjoy your weekend!

P.S. Don't forget to stop on over to Pause, Dream, and Enjoy and link up with the Bug Challenge you have one more week.

Hot Air Balloon Challenge

Good Thursday loyal readers! Today I have a card for you that reminds me of the beauty of summer. This card was made by using a couple different challenges and the cricut cut June and July (which is the free cut in the craft room this week!)

I entered this card into the following challenges so make sure to head on over and enter your own creation (scrap pages, cards, 3-D projects..) Make sure to follow the challenge rules before entering though.

Taking part in challenges helps new and seasoned designers stretch their limits a little bit further by setting up the pre-requisites which hopefully challenge and build your skills. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to learn some new skills.

Monotone Scrap Layouts

I have been working on a lot of cards lately so today I thought I would share another scrapbook page layout. These pages were done about 2 years ago when my son was a few month old. Aww.. looking back how I miss those days and realize that from infant to preschool is a huge difference- still fun just different playing fields.

Anyway, I love these pages because they show a beautiful monotone use of the color blue with a light accent of yellow which are great colors together. I also love that the photos were framed and that the animals complement each other through the two pages. Journaling is a tough spot for most people and you can either tuck the journaling tabs right into the page so it gives them a hidden effect or you can post them onto the page like I have shown. I simply write what the pictures were about because I feel as though a scrapbook is a memory and I suck at remembering things so I want my journaling to reflect why I chose to treasure these pictures.

Well I hope you enjoy my pages :)

First 3-D Project!!

If you have been following along with my blog then you know that I am fairly new to paper crafting. I have been scrapbooking forever but just recently have been introduced to all of the wonderful projects that a person can make using some basic card stock and some common tools. This still sends jolts of energy through me because in my mind scrapping, stamping, and paper crafts have not received the praise that they should and finally I feel as though that is changing.

So anyway enough rambling let's get onto my fist 3-D project. This was inspired and lifted from a template that I received from Split Coast Stampers - what a wonderful site for inspiration, techniques, challenges, and just a cool spot to hang out on the forums. Make sure to check them out (the link is above) if you never have, but be warned that you can get lost in all of the information they have available.

Now you can accessorize this however you want after you get everything assembled. Since the cutting and assembly is so easy you will have plenty of time to put extras on at the end. I chose not to accessorize this one because I wanted that lovely paper to shine though (and because I was going to add some real flowers in there that my son picked) but again it does look just as lovely with a little extra pizazz.

I am hoping to have more 3-D projects in the near future so make sure to stay tuned and as always feel free to join us on facebook and show us your 3-D projects.

Cherish This

I have realized after drumming up a pinterest board (I LOVE that site!!) and getting further into my card making skills that I love the clean and simple designs. They are exactly that clean and simple and I think they come out so lovely. I also love the use of color and for todays card I combined both color and a C&S design and came up with the following.

This card combines the Color My Heart Color Dare #93 which uses the colors Cranberry, Honey, Juniper, and Twilight. I also entered this card into the My Craft Spot Challenge 137 which is to use an inking technique. The inking technique I used was to ink around the edges of the "Cherish This" to give it a distressed look. This technique is very easy and is applied by simply sliding the edges in the ink (very slightly) and then I dip the corners of the paper a little further into the ink.

Make sure to head on over and take part on those blogs and challenges. There are all such wonderful inspiration when looking for something new to do and I always feel like a challenge is just that and brings me outside my comfort zone a little whether it's using colors I would have never put together or trying out a new technique.

Thanks Mom!

Happy Thursday! Today I have a simple card that reflects how luck I am to have a fabulous relationship with my mom. Among other things she has showed me how to be a great mother myself so with that I wanted to make a card that was simple and provided a simple message- thanks mom.

Moms in general do a ton for their families and in fact most moms put their families before themselves far too often and for that I just want to say thanks to every mom who is now nodding their head and hopefully realizing how important their role is.

So now onto the card, with this sketch I followed the Mojo Monday Sketch which was a little bit of a challenge for me because there were a lot of different patterns that I was working with. The tag and the blue striped strip are both the same paper which is from the Skylark Paper Pack. Make sure to check it out because the skylark is also that beautiful subtle paper that I used in this post. The papers that come in this pack are all so wonderful and all so different so do go take a peak. The rest of the stuff is from my stash.

I entered this into the following challenges so make sure to head on over and join us.

Mojo Monday: Sketch 344
Exploring Cricut: Mother's Day and More
My Craft Spot: Mother Day or Spring

Until we meet again!

Ivy Lane Monotone

Wow! I'm not even sure where we are with my posts ~LOL~ I suppose this is what happens when I get too much of a good thing. Since I have been so consecutive with posting on M, W, F and the occasional here and there along with those 3 days I figured I would through in a random Sunday and skip over Monday! HAHAHA.. Well to all of my loyal readers who were just as confused as I was this week I would like to extend my apologies. Rest assure I will figure this whole blogging thing out one of these days.

So now onto today's card. A while back I posted this wonderful article on color..go ahead and take a peak I promise it's a good one plus I will be here when you get back. Ok welcome back! I wanted to go back to that article because this is a prime example of a monotone card - which to this day I firmly believe that monotone is the best way to start off your color exploration. It's easy to piece together papers that are the same cooler and the best thing is that they will always match!!

This lovely pink flower paper is from the CTMH Ivy Lane collection and is a very glamorous paper which I added to a pale pink textured paper. The squares we could have gone without but I was following a sketch so I kept them in and the Piggy is from the adorable Create a Critter cartridge.

I hope this card helps to show you that even a monotone card can be fun. As always feel free to link up your monotone projects with our Facebook group.

I entered this card into the following blog challenges so make sure to pop on over and join us.

Skylark is Back and Scrappy

As promised I saved the best for last and boy let me tell you that my lovely readers got me back in the scrap swing and boy did I love it! Sometimes when we are learning something new (in my case cards) you get very sidetracked and engulfed in it and forget that there are other things to do with paper... or at least that's my case. So anyway thanks for making me promise a scrap page because I had a blast running back down memory lane.

I decided to continue working on our vacation from last year. We took the Fourth of July week off and traveled out to Cape Cod for the first time. It was such a lovely, relaxing, and close to home vacation that I recommend it for anyone who lives in the Northeast (or anyone in general.) For me the cape offered a wonderful and classic New England feel with of course excellent sea food and some sunset whale watching (jealous.. because it was completely worth it.)

So the page I worked on this week was of our whale watching tour. I took my (then) 2 year old and we all had such a wonderful time. Here take a peak:

This was material from the skylark scrapbooking kit which is offered through my CTMH site. I have discussed this line before and how lovely it is. This is the same line as this card but it is the reverse side of it. So for the price of one you actually get two completely different feels and colors, but as you can see the blue side and the yellow can easily go together. All the accessories are also front the skylark line.

The layout was also scraplifted from the skylark alternate layout (located on the back of the instructions.) So if you have never purchased a Workshop on the go from CTMH you don't know what you are in for. When you pick up the kit you get all the paper for 2 complete layouts (4 pages) as well as accessories and a stamp set that matches the paper line. This is a very affordable pick up and you get so many materials for a very low price. Seriously check it out here. So aside from all that material you also get a step by step instruction book with the main layout and then an alternative layout - which is what this came from.

You can also check out the Reflections How to Book which offers 100 different layouts. This is great for beginners and those of us who need a little inspiration once in a while.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! I'll see you back on Monday.
